Magnetic Bookmarks for Every Book Genre Because One Bookmark Is Never Enough

Hi to whoever is reading this, 

I’m the type of reader who can go from fantasy, to a 700-page classic, to a detective story and somehow think this is completely normal(Can't blame myself). My reading taste is honestly all over the place, and I feel like your bookmark should match the book you are currently reading.

Is it necessary? Probably not.

Does it make reading more fun? Absolutely.

That is actually one of the reasons I love making magnetic bookmarks. They stay on the page, they are cute sticking out of the book, and you can basically have a different little reading companion for every genre.

Fantasy probably has some of the BEST opportunities for matching bookmarks. Dragons, potions, castles, ghosts, magical creatures - give me all of it.

My fantasy reading journey started with Suji Kim's book series: Under the Oak Tree (UTOT). I'm thinking making some magnetic bookmarks dedicated to UTOT. Also, one of my favorite fantasy books is One Dark Window and the whole two-book series. I absolutely loved the atmosphere of those books.

I also really love Rebecca Ross and her books, especially Dreams Lie Beneath and the Letters of Enchantment series. There is just something about her writing that makes me want to disappear into the book for a few days and ignore my responsibilities.( I can't and won't, LOL, I'm a mom of 2).

So if I’m reading something dark and magical, obviously I want a magnetic bookmark that gives me the same feeling. A little dragon, potion or some magical creature sitting on top of the page? Yes please.

This is also why fantasy inspired so many of the magnetic bookmarks I make. I want to look at the bookmark and feel like it actually belongs with the story I'm reading.

Now we are switching moods completely.

If you are looking for classics, I really love Theodore Dreiser, especially The Financier and An American Tragedy. These are definitely not light little weekend reads, but sometimes that's exactly what I want.

But my favorite classic book is probably War and Peace by Tolstoy, since I studied in Russian gymnasium (but I'm not from Russia, I'm from Kyrgyzstan hence we still read a lot of Russian classics!!!).

So Russian classics and I have been having a love and hate relationship since middle school. Maybe because I grew up reading so many of them, or maybe I just enjoy making myself emotionally suffer through hundreds and hundreds of pages. 😂

And I also LOVE the Gone with the Wind series. Give me a huge book, complicated characters, drama, questionable life decisions and apparently I am happy.

For classics, I personally love pairing the book with something a little more traditional. A pretty linen bookmark or even a simple magnetic bookmark that doesn't take away from the whole old-book feeling.

And then there are the days when I don't want dragons, romance or 800 pages of family drama.

Sometimes I just want someone to get murdered on page 3 and spend the rest of the night trying to figure out WHO DID IT.

Agatha Christie is obviously one of my favorites when it comes to detective books. There is just something about sitting down with one of her books and trying to solve the mystery before she tells you the answer.

I also did really enjoy Mike Omer's Zoe Bentley books. Those are exactly the type of books where I tell myself one more chapter and suddenly it is 2 AM and apparently sleep is no longer important.

For detective and thriller books, I love something a little darker or mysterious as a bookmark. Bonus points if the bookmark itself looks slightly suspicious. 😂

And Then There Is My TBR...

My TBR is absolutely crazy.

There is fantasy, classics, romance, thrillers, random books I saw once and decided I NEED to read... basically every genre mixed together with absolutely no organization.

And that's just the list.

I also have a whole stack of physical books in queue, patiently waiting for their time to shine.  Some of them have been waiting longer than I would like to admit.

Every time I buy another book I somehow convince myself that this one is different and obviously I will read it immediately.

Meanwhile, the other books are sitting there looking at me.Their day will come, I promise!!!

And when it does, they will absolutely get their chance to rock one of my magnetic bookmarks.

Honestly, I think that's also why I love making so many different bookmark designs. My reading taste doesn't stick to one aesthetic or one genre, so why should my bookmarks?

Basically, Your Bookmark Should Match Your Reading Personality

Do you NEED a different bookmark for fantasy, romance, classics and thrillers?

No.

Do I think it's more fun?

Absolutely.

I love choosing a bookmark the same way I choose my next book - entirely based on whatever mood I'm in that day.

Some days it's dragons and magic. Some days it's Tolstoy. Some days we apparently want fictional murder.

And sometimes the book I planned to read next gets pushed down the TBR because another book suddenly looks more interesting. 😂

That's the fun part about being a reader. We don't have to pick one genre, one aesthetic, or apparently even stick to our own TBR.

Our books change, so our bookmarks can too.
