How Getting Laid Off Pushed Me to Start My Own Custom Magnet & Stationery Business

How Getting Laid Off Pushed Me to Start My Own Custom Magnet & Stationery Business

I got laid off... one week prior to my paid maternity leave.

I know the economy is tough, but so is getting laid off. I did not expect this. Nobody expected it at my previous company. The company got sold, they said, and everyone was getting wound down.

Shoot.

I lost my faith in my profession.

And as a true millennial with 1,000 hobbies, I decided to try to launch my first small business while juggling a 5-year-old and a newborn.

Hey, we love complicating things!

But nevertheless, here I am, spending the last of my savings on equipment. Stupid, you can call me. I can call myself that too.

The goal for me is that this business will not only put bread on my family's table, but also make me feel fulfilled.

Maybe I will fail and go back to corporate (God, please let my business boom), but maybe I won't. Maybe I'll get to create magnets with your favorite pictures in them, make stickers and bookmarks while listening to amazing music and getting inspired by it.

And this will probably be a stupid way for me to undermine myself again (I guess that's another millennial trait?).

So here I am, bare and hoping for you to see me.

Thank you, love. Till next time.
